ISTDP Summer School for Professionals
Five Days of ISTDP Training and Immersion Experience
August 21-25, 2016
With Thomas M. Brod, MD, Jon Frederickson, MSW, Nat Kuhn, MD, and Tony Rousmaniere, PhD
This Summer School is meant for psychotherapists who wish to learn the fundamental skills of ISTDP and advanced practitioners looking to enhance their skills and deepen their understanding of the methods involved. You will have the opportunity to present case material for supervision and to practice skill-building in a supportive group environment. There will be separate tracks for Advanced and Basic students, but large group processing will be emphasized for supervision, role-playing, and processing of unconscious activation. Physicians, psychologists, licensed therapists, nurses, and social workers can earn 23 Continuing Education Units through the New Center for Psychoanalysis (Los Angeles).
The faculty will use video vignettes and role-playing with participants to teach the principles and techniques of intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy. Topics to be covered will be establishing an emotional focus for treatment, helping patients track emotional causality to anxious/somatic experiences, and looking at the importance of the Unconscious Therapeutic Alliance (UTA) and how it is transformative in the processing of guilt and forgiveness. There will be daily supervision and group process work.
The Summer School will occupy the full facility of the historic 100 year-old Captain Whidbey Inn for this five-day intensive program. The Inn is located on Whidbey Island, on Puget Sound, outside of Seattle. Recreational opportunities are scheduled. The program includes Sunday dinner through the Friday noon meal. 23 CEU/CME units for licensed professionals.
